3-0

300px-greenbaypackers_100-1svg.pngThere are only 4 teams left in the NFL that are 3-0 on the season, and my team, the Tennessee Titans, are not on the list. Three of the teams on the list will not come as a surprise to you: the Colts, the Patriots and the Stealers. But the fourth is shocking to many…the Green Bay Packers! Could this be the season that Favre has been waiting for in order to call it quits?

For the past two seasons, Favre now 37, has been pondering if this year will be the last…even having the long conversations with his wife about weather “this is the year.” But can you imagine retiring on a loss? Think about it…you are one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and you walk off of the field on a regular season game getting blown out by some barely-out-of-college twenty-somethings quarterback and that’s just it? It’s over. I’m walkin’ off the field, never to suit up again?

I know it happens all the time, but I can’t imagine exiting the game like that is an easy way to go. Perhaps Favre won’t go out that way. Maybe Green Bay is going all the way this year? Maybe they will go-out in a tough fight in the second round of the playoffs, or trail off as the season goes on with a 7-9 record and he is right where he has been the past 2 seasons. Favre seems to be a classy guy, so I truly hope that this is his year (since the Packers are an NFC team they would be a great match up against the Titans in the Superbowl…did I just make a prediction?).

But what about you? How will you go out? How will you finish? I Corinthians 9:24 says “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it” and Hebrews 12:1-2 says “let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.”

Set your course, keep your eyes fixed on the goal, and finish strong. Brett Favre, I wish you the best this year, and to the rest of us, we have another game to prepare for. Finish Strong and Be There.
